Discipline is the key to freedom

I’ve been reading the classic business book, Good to Great by Jim Collins.

Although I’ve skimmed it before, this time I’m actually READING it.

‘Greatness is not a function of circumstance. Greatness is largely a matter of conscious choice and discipline’.

Choosing to be disciplined is an incredibly empowering context for life. I’ve been choosing to be disciplined in the way I plan each day and here’s what you want to know – the more disciplined I am about planning, the less work needs to get done!

The more disciplined I am around exercise, the better I feel. The more disciplined I am about learning something new each day, the greater my ability to empower and lead those around me.

Discipline sounds like the antithesis to freedom when, in actual fact, discipline is the key to freedom.

Why not try it out?

Set aside time this week and look at just one aspect of your business where you’d like to be producing better results.  Now ask yourself, if I was more disciplined in my approach – diligent, committed, organised – what could I achieve?

I’ll be surprised if you don’t find an extra few hours in the week and a better quality of work, but either way I’d love to hear how you get on.
